STOCK BROKER is a stock market simulation for the Commodore 128 in
80-column mode. Full instructions are provided within the program
itself.
To begin with, the high scores of previous moguls, if present, are
read from the disk. Here you can compare your goals with the achievements
of those before you. You should understand that the richer people might
have got there during a market boom, so don't expect to get near those, at
least to begin with.
You will also see a little menu from which you can make choices by
the press of a key. You are limited to one of five background colors as
the game uses colors extensively. Before you start you should decide how
many players wish to participate. Up to eight players can play at any one
time. You can also save the high scores. It is a good idea to save
scores whenever they are updated.
For instructions, press I. This will give you access to several help
screens which can be accessed by the stroke of a single key. The
instructions can also be accessed during game play.
When you (and your friends) are ready, press the RETURN key. Each
player will then be asked to enter their name. After this, the game will
start, displaying a table, player information and a menu. Each player
starts with $500.00 to invest.
Look at the table to make decisions about which shares you wish to
buy. The most important information are the BUY and SELL prices. The BUY
price is what each share of a particular stock costs to buy from the
market and the SELL price is what the market is offering for those
shares.
To make money, you need to buy shares at a price below which you
sell. A good indicator as to which stocks to invest in is the CHANGE
value, which is the size that the BUY price has altered since the previous
day. To buy any shares, press B. You will be asked which stock you wish
to invest in and the amount you want to buy. Press S if you wish to sell
shares. You will be asked similar questions as for buying shares.
Pressing V will display the 'value' (wealth) of all players while
pressing A shows the amount of each share type for all players as well as
their value.
To change a player, press SHIFT and the number key corresponding to
that player. Once all players have traded as they want for that day,
press SHIFT and N for a new day.
The game ends when day 100 is reached, when all players' TOTAL value
is compared with the high score table and you get to see if you're
immortalized.
Do you have what it takes to be a corporate giant? Play the game and
find out!

FENDER'S POSTMUMBLE: STOCK BROKER 128 is an excellent example of what
computers can do best: simulate real life situations without all of real
life's tears. Reiner Richter has done a super programming job with this
program, as he always does. Everything we have published of his has been
practically "ready-to-go" from the moment we received it. He has style;
he enjoys color; he's got great ideas. We look forward to many more
programs from him in the future.
